Kian’s wines storefront design illustration showing awning, logo, and shop exterior in Chicago.

wines — means all sorts of drinks. fairly sure we read that in a poem once.

questions? do email or text us — we reply, untroubled. yet, we reckon we’ve gotta put you behind the ones visiting us on site. we ditched the phone line just to make sure of it. and we need sleep

anytime tasting™

tastings are part of our belief. for long-lasting bottles — whiskies, gins, and the like — we try to keep one bottle open from what we have on the shelf. have a sip before bringing it home.

for quicker-turn bottles, like wine and sake, we open a small rotating selection and share them as the week unfolds. you’re always welcome to ask — it becomes a shared moment, if everyone’s up for it.

this week’s quicker-turns, until the bottles reach the bottom, Feb. 11–15

Heiwa, “AKA (Red) KID”, Red Rice

Wakayama, west Japan

Dacapo, “Majoli”, Ruche (roo-KAY) di Castagnole

Piedmont, northwestern Italy

Luna Sicana, “A’zita cu ziti (A Bride with a Groom)”

Sicily

max 3 samples per person per day. its the law… and the fragile $math behind it all.

our quiet thanks

we like to keep our part of the equation light-bodied from the start (because we hope to see you again), so our discounts stay modest and honest — a humble thank-you for seeing us again, and extra cheers to you for venturing something new*.

*we say that — new things keep us on our toes, and we’re thankful our vendors are patient co-conspirators.

[for everything]

5% off — come back and show us the Google review you left

(that is, a modest $5 off if you spend $100. a bribe, or just local hospitality — we’ll leave that one to you.)

the pact — one mark per purchase, $5 credit at five marks

(no loyalty sworn. just a quiet promise to see each other again — and trade tales of other lovely places, too.)

[for bottles of wine & sake that are $20+]

— 5% built in — when you gather six or more different bottles

our shelf cards come from Kian’s tasting notes - scribbles turned into something calm and concise. what, where, and a few markers we track: body, fruit, acidity, earth, mineral, and friends of those. (so instead of “bright acidity” we might say 7/10, and “linear and focused acidity” maybe 9/10.)

a small dispatch

the awning may be tucked under the snow (it's kinda pretty...), but we're open and here. if anything unexpected ever comes up, we update our website right away - and you're always welcome to text us. we reply, untroubled. just forgive us if we're helping someone in the shop first.

as we continue to curate our spirits selection, we're delighted to share a few new arrivals from Campbeltown, Scotland — one bottle of each. they might be a little harder to find, but what speaks most to us is how true to their character they are. warmth to you in this snowy weekend.

wine shops — ours one of those — are made for you to enjoy at home: with your loved ones, in your solitude, or among your spirits.
